This Privacy Policy explains how The Impartial Lens collects, uses, and shares information when you visit theimpartiallens.com, subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or otherwise use our content and services. The Impartial Lens is an independent publication operated by Ronan and Michael (“The Impartial Lens,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
Information we collect
Information you provide. We may collect your email address when you subscribe; your name, email address, and message when you contact us; and information you submit in comments, surveys, or other forms.
Information collected automatically. When you use the website, we and our service providers may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring pages, pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, timestamps, and security or diagnostic logs. We may use cookies and similar technologies to remember preferences, operate forms, understand site usage, and protect the website.
Information from service providers. We may receive limited information from providers that help us operate the website and newsletter, such as subscription status, email delivery, opens, clicks, form activity, and security events.
How we use information
- Provide, maintain, and improve the website and newsletter.
- Send requested editorial emails and related communications.
- Respond to questions and provide support.
- Measure engagement and understand which content is useful.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate spam, fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Comply with law, enforce our terms, and protect rights and safety.
How we share information
We do not rent or sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers. With vendors that help us host and secure the WordPress website, deliver email through Kit, process forms, provide analytics, or support our operations. They may use information only to perform services for us, subject to their own terms and legal obligations.
- Legal and safety reasons. If we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the rights, safety, security, or property of The Impartial Lens, our readers, or others.
- Business changes. In connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, sale, or transfer of all or part of the publication, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections where applicable.
- With your direction. When you ask us to share information or otherwise consent.
We do not knowingly sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Email choices
You may unsubscribe from marketing or editorial emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message. We may still send non-promotional communications when necessary to respond to you, administer a request, or address security or legal matters.
Cookies and browser controls
Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Doing so may affect some site functions. Because there is not yet a uniform standard for browser “Do Not Track” signals, the website does not currently respond to them. We will update this Policy if our practices change.
Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including maintaining subscription records, providing requested services, resolving disputes, meeting legal obligations, and protecting the website. Retention periods vary based on the type of information and why we collected it.
Data security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No website, email system, or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information; receive a copy of certain information; or object to or restrict certain processing. California residents may also have rights under California privacy law, to the extent that law applies. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
To make a request, email memberservices@theimpartiallens.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to verification of their authority.
Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
International users
The Impartial Lens and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those locations may have data-protection laws different from those where you live.
Third-party links
Our content may link to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one, and we encourage you to review them.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here and change the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the website or newsletter when appropriate.
